Nuevo año, nuevos retos // A new year, new challenges!

*English after the photo’s*

Even though 2016 has only just begun, we’ve been back at the Casona (community centre in León, Nicaragua, where convicted prisoners work & recieve classes) every day to work on our plans for this year! With the (ex) prisoner theatre group we’ll be creating a new play based on Rubén Darío’s life. Darío was a famous Nicaraguan modernist poet and intellectual who died of cirrhosis in 1916. The play will be called ‘El Archivo del Mundo’ (the archive of the world), and intimately touch the matter of confinement and addiction through a poetic, visual and physical scenic language.

In the leonese prison itself we’ve started up theatre and dance workshops every Wednesday with a group of eleven convicted minors and a group of ten women, also mixing the two groups during the sessions. Here are some first pictures!

At the end of January Lleca’s Julienne will return to the Netherlands to start organising a series of fundraisers to support the Theatre from Prison program (all three groups) and raise funds for the new play and the prison workshops. Would you like to help? Don’t hesitate to have a look under the support & collaboration tab to see what you can do, or get in touch with us at lleca.teatro@gmail.com – thank you!
